Brazil vs. Chile – Round of 16: Justin’s Free Pick

Monday, June 28, 2010

Brazil -215

Chile +575

Draw +300

This is a fantastic match. It’s unfortunate these two teams have to meet with in the Round of 16, as both are playing outstanding futbol right now.

The Group of Death proved to be no match for the mighty Brazilians. A 2-1 win over North Korea and a 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast sent them through to the next round. The outcome of its final game versus Portugal (0-0 draw) was inconsequential and they were able to rest a few key starters.

After beating Honduras and Switzerland, Chile almost took down Spain, despite having only 10 men. A draw would have resulted in the Group’s top spot, but a red card in the 37th minute proved to be too costly. Unfortunately for Chile, they will be without three starters due to yellow card suspensions. Significant changes will have to be made to fill in the holes.

Brazil outscored Chile 7-2 in World Cup qualifiers, and will look to add to that total in this match. As good as Chile has played recently, missing several starters against anyone, especially Brazil will be too much to overcome. Brazil should be fit and ready to attack. This is where Brazil thrives, and I expect a 2-0 victory with both goals from Luis Fabiano.
