Two week one NFL Pre-season winners meet in Atlanta as the Atlanta Falcons host the New England Patriots.

The Atlanta Falcons weren't overly impressive in their 20-10 week one win over the Kansas City chiefs but they did manage to do a few things, most important of which was remain healthy. Matt Ryan completed three passes in his two possessions he played as Chris Redman and John Parker Wilson saw the bulk of the action. Antone Smith had 12 carries for 36 yards after Michael Turner was impressive gaining 29 yards on four carries. Dimitri Nance saw action running the ball and catching it as he had two catches for 26 yards and and seven carries for six yards while Tony Gonzalez had two catches for 28 yards and Kerry Meier had two catches for 27 yards. The defense held firm allowing just one touchdown with 18 seconds left to go in the game. Atlanta's big focus is the pass rush and a healthy John Abraham will probably go a long way towards improvement in that area. Atlanta sputtered on their drives settling for field goal attempts early but only converting on one of them as Matt Bryant was one for two and Steve Hauschka was the same. I expect for the starters to go a little longer in this one as they will more than likely just play in this and the next pre-season games before resting the starters in the last pre-season game.

The New England Patriots looked about as good and focused as a team can look in their first pre-season game last Thursday against New Orleans. Tom Brady looked to be in mid-season form going five for eight passing and Bobby Hoyer was a respectable eight of 13 and ac Robinson was three of eight in his NFL debut. Chris Taylor led Patriots rushers with 39 yards while BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 34 yards and a touchdown and Laurence Maroney ran with authority as he had 30 yards and two touchdowns. Julian Edelman saw extensive time catching six passes for 90 yards and the Pats were still impressed with the speed of Darnell Jenkins who had a 52 yard catch. New England didn't turn the ball over in the game. Terrance Wheatley had six tackles, Patrick Chung had five and Pierre Woods and Jerrod Mayo had four each while rookie Brandon Spikes had three tackles and five assists. The biggest news out of the game was the injury to Ty Warren who is gone for the season, leaving big shoes to fill on the defense.

This should be a pretty good game and obviously the longer the starters go, the better quality of football we are going to see. Even though it's just pre-season, Atlanta is definitely a lot tougher at home than they are on the road and while this game goes into the avoid category as far as betting, if forced to make a pick i'll take the home team laying less than a field goal.

Mitch's Pick: Atlanta Falcons
