Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3) at Washington Redskins (1-2)NFL Football: Sunday October 4, 2009 1 PM ESTThe Line: Washington Redskins -7Two offense which seem lifeless at times this season meet in our nation's capital as the Washington Redskins host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Washington Redskins returned home this week with the dubious distinction of the team who the Lions beat to end their 19 game losing streak. The Redskins just looked awful and in-cohesive on both sides of the ball. It was like the Redskins offense was waiting for a light to go on to tell them to go. I'm not sure if this is the by product of the several coaching changes the Redskins seem to make on an almost annual basis or if they just don't have the personnel after all of these years of free spending on free agency. The Redskins have the 13th ranked offense in the NFL but that hasn't translated to points as the Redskins average only 13 points a game so far. The Washington defense is ranked 15th in the NFL and it has been because of them that the Redskins have even been in any of the games they have played this year and were responsible for the two point win against the Rams. The Buccaneers entered the season with a QB controversy and the pathetic performance of the offense hasn't done anything to make anyone believe that the team has taken the right direction. Byron Leftwich has been benched as starting QB after throwing for 22 total yards and an interception last week in the shut out loss to the Giants. Instead of trying out rookie first round draft pick Josh Freeman, the Bucs are choosing to go with second year QB Josh Johnson. Johnson is an interesting story as he was prolific in college but few had heard of him as he went to an FCS school, San Diego. Johnson is mobile and accurate and it will be fun to see what eh can do with the first unit. The Buccaneer defense hasn't been very good and rank second to last in the NFL. They aren't as bad as the numbers say but when you are on the field all game long and get no relief from the offense, bad things are bound to happen. Washington is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games and are 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five as a favorite. Tampa Bay is 0-5 against the spread in their last five games overall and 1-5 against the spread in their last six games as an underdog. The home team in this series is 7-3-1 against the spread in the last 11 meetings. In a game where it looks like the team who can get out of it's own way and put 10 points on teh board could easily be the winner, giving seven right off the bat doesn't seem to be a very smart play. While taking the Buccaneers this season hasn't been a smart play either, I think with the points they are the only play here.
