The Texas Rangers and New York Yankees collide for a series that should be a post season preview. The Texas Rangers are staggering to the finish line but after a strong summer, they have a comfortable lead in the American League West where they are the only team over .500. The Rangers have won two in a row and four of their last 10 as their lead is at seven and a half games over the Oakland Athletics. As a team the Rangers are hitting .276 with Josh Hamilton leading in batting average at .361, home runs at 31, and runs scored at 94 while Vladimir Guerrero leads in RBI's with 102. As a team the Texas pitching staff has an ERA of 3.99 with the starters at 4.34 and the bullpen at 3.32. For game one against the Yankees the Rangers start C.J. Wilson who lost last time out to end his seven game winning streak. For the season Wilson has allowed 134 hits and 61 earned runs while striking out 145 in 177 innings of work. The New York Yankees continue to lead baseball's best division, the American League East, by two and a half games. The Yankees have won seven of their last 10 games and have a 38-28 record on the road. As a team New York is hitting .269 with Robinson Cano leading in batting average at .318, Alex Rodriguez leading in RBI's with 100, and Mark Teixeira leading in home runs with 30 and runs scored at 101. As a staff the Yankee pitchers have an ERA of 3.88 with the starters at 4.17 and the bullpen at 3.24. For game one in Arlington the Yankees start Javier Vazquez who had a no decision in a New York win last time out. For the season Vazquez has allowed 135 hits and 80 earned runs while striking out 117 in 143 and two-thirds innings of work. Texas is 1-4 in their last five following a win, 2-5 in their last seven overall, 4-0 in Wilson's last four starts against the AL East, and 7-0 in their last seven home games following a road trip of seven days or more. New York is 7-1 in their last eight games following a win, 9-3 in their last 12 overall, 6-1 in Vazquez's last seven road starts, and 1-4 in their last five games following an off day. New York has won 19 of their last 26 games in Texas. The Rangers are really struggling and Wilson has become the ace of the staff and we should get a good indication of where this team is headed by the way they play tonight. I Believe the Rangers are headed nowhere fast. Mitch's Pick: New York Yankees
