It’s a battle of Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament’s East Regional as the Syracuse Orange take on the Marquette Golden Eagles.

The Syracuse Orange jumped all over the Indiana State Sycamores on Friday and Jim Boeheim’s team looks to make yet another NCAA Tournament run. Rick Jackson had 23 points and seven rebounds, C.J. Fair had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kris Joseph had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a game that was never really close. For the season SU averaged 73.7 points and they shot 47 percent from the floor while grabbing 37.8 rebounds per game. The Orange played the 33rd ranked schedule in the country going 14-1 out of conference and 5-1 in neutral site games. Defensively Syracuse allows 63.2 points and their opponents shoot 39.4 percent while they are 154th in defensive rebounding.

The Marquette Golden Eagles were the last of 11 Big East teams to make the field for the NCAA Tournament and now Buzz Williams’ team has a chance to make the Sweet 16. Marquette had no problem with Xavier as Darius Johnson-Odom had 19 points, Jimmy Butler had 15 points, and Jae Crowder had 10 points as they made it look easy. For the season the Golden Eagles averaged 75.8 points and shot 46.9 percent while grabbing 35.9 rebounds. MU played the 26th ranked schedule in the nation going 12-5 out of conference and 3-3 in neutral site games and they beat Syracuse by six in a meeting earlier this season. Defensively Marquette allows 68.7 points and their opponents shoot 43.6 percent while they are 122nd in defensive rebounding.

Syracuse is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against Big East teams, 5-1 against the spread in their last six as an NCAA Tournament favorite, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Marquette is 8-3 against the spread as a neutral site underdog, 10-4 against the spread following a cover, and 13-5 against the spread overall as an underdog.

This should be a good one as Big East games are generally tight and NCAA Tournament games get tighter as the Tournament goes on and as this one fits all of the criteria points are meaningful.

Mitch’s Pick: Marquette + 5
